Mission Statement (from 1000booksbeforekindergarten.org):
The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge is simple: read a book, any book to your child, with the goal of reading 1,000 before kindergarten, a very manageable endeavor.
Our goal is to provide a simple, innovative yet fun approach to establishing strong early literacy skills. We help young children gain the confidence necessary to become strong readers.
Weston Public Library Participation:
The Weston Public Library is a proud supporter of the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. We have linked downloadable PDF’s here on our website for how the program works, suggested reading lists, book tracking, and tips for reading with your children and will provide you print-outs of these items if requested.
When you and your child finish a list of 100 books (remember that rereads of your favorites always count), bring your list to the Weston Public Library to our Children’s Librarian so your child can get a special sticker, a book to take home to keep, and the option to put their name on an animal cut out on our windows. Each 100 level has new stickers, more books, and a different animal for the windows. When your child reaches the 1,000 books goal, we will give them a special certificate with their name and a special prize.
